Ruby Moon

A Moon-themed learning companion for the Xteink X4 e-paper reader, with signed firmware, learning content, and updates confirmed by a grown-up on the device.

Learning on an e-paper reader

Ruby Moon turns the Xteink X4 into a Moon-themed learning companion for young children. It brings firmware, learning content, and a home hub into one product designed around the reader’s small e-paper display and physical controls.

Updates with a grown-up in control

The device checks a signed catalog and verifies firmware and content against the release keys built into its firmware. An update is installed only after a grown-up confirms it on the device. Public release artifacts can be inspected on GitHub; an unsigned file is not an accepted update.

Content families can contribute

The community repository holds learning-pack sources under CC0. Contributions can be studied and adapted, while the firmware and other dependencies retain their own terms. A complete automated community-pack installation workflow is future work, so the portfolio links to the sources rather than promising one.

Where it stands

Ruby Moon is experimental firmware for supported Xteink X4 hardware, with public signed releases. Its working firmware and hub source remain private. The hub runs at home; this project does not offer a public hosted hub service.
