Model Scout
A local Windows workbench for finding, previewing, and organizing 3D models: cached galleries, multi-part collections, exact duplicate checks, print-cost estimates, and reviewed file transfers.
Find the model, keep the project
A model library grows beyond a folder of STL files. There are multi-part prints, CAD originals, archives, textures, and several versions of the same part. Model Scout searches folders and drives, builds a cached gallery, and keeps related files together in virtual collections without moving the originals.
Review before changing files
Exact duplicate checks use SHA-256 after comparing file sizes. Copy and move actions show a file-by-file plan, preserve existing destinations, and verify copies before removing a moved source. Tags, favorites, saved searches, creator details, source links, and license notes help keep the library understandable.
From a file to a print estimate
Filament and resin profiles combine your material prices, machine time, power, labor, and other costs. Basic STL tools report geometry and produce a separate export when you scale, rotate, or remove duplicate or zero-area triangles. These diagnostics are a starting point for inspection, not a printability guarantee.
Local by default
Electron, React, Three.js, and SQLite provide the desktop interface, model views, and local catalog. Scanning, thumbnails, hashing, and estimates run on the computer. Optional cloud identification sends only an explicitly reviewed image and requires your own API key.
Availability
Windows 10/11 x64 is the tested target. The source is public under the MIT license, with separate licenses for its dependencies. The documented portable build is unsigned. There is no published GitHub Release to download yet; the newer asset-library work is visible in the public feature branch and pull request.
